Glossary

Yogāvacara refers to the practitioner of the methods described in the emerging literature on the ancient meditation practices of Southeast Asia. Lit. it means “he whose way is yoga”. Buddhaghosa in the Visuddhimagga (Path of Purification) also uses “yogi” to refer to the meditator. When used rather than “meditator”, it implies experiences that affect both mind and body, and that part of the task is to integrate both realms. Yoga in Sanskrit means union or yoking together (mind-body; with the supreme spirit; cf ekagattācitta and samādhi).
